John Stephen (Steve) Tatrallyay
July 30, 1957 – May 7, 2011
John Stephen (Steve) Tatrallyay passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital on Saturday May 7th, 2011 in his 54th year. Loving husband of Leanne McPhie and “Daddy” to Layla, survived by his mother Irene (McCarthy) Tatrallyay and his brothers Eric, Zsolt and sister Mariella. Predeceased by his father Gabriel. Cherished Uncle, Godfather and Friend – deeply loved and remembered by all who knew him.
Born in Peterborough Ontario, Steve attended school there and in Toronto. He graduated from Carleton University and received his Law Degree from Osgoode Hall and was called to the bar in 1984.
Steve was a partner at the law firm of Koskie Minsky in Toronto as well as a past President of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers (CCCL). In 2007, he moved his independent practice to Stratford.
Steve loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved the Arts – not only in regularly attending performances, but also in volunteering behind the scenes. Steve never met an art gallery, museum or book he didn’t love and would spend hours absorbing them. Steve was also an inveterate traveller and has left his footprints in many parts of the world.
Steve was the consummate host. He loved to share time with friends, family and good food – whether that be some fish he may have caught, something he might have grown in his own garden or fresh local fare.
Our memories of Steve are warm ones, highlighted by his smile, hearty laugh and quick wit. His friendships were deep and we thank him for sharing himself with us for so many decades. We will always remember him with joy, laughter and much love.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Steve’s life at 12:00pm on Saturday, May 14th at W. G. Young Funeral Home (430 Huron Street, Stratford N5A 5T7). A continuation of the celebration will follow at the Avon Theatre (99 Downie Street) starting at 1:30pm.
